When we walk down the valley of Bacca ,although the depths of this fleshly perception of shadows and penumbras, God is watching, and, one by one, we learn lessons with each move.
One day in 1997, everyone in the market where we were selling heard the whistle of an approaching shell. It was a stampede, a runaway. We had to find a place to take shelter immediately. Everyone fled. I was left alone in the open, and according to mortal understanding I was exposed to danger. The crowd that had taken shelter under a demolished house shouted for me to run away.
Do you what kind of mistake I had done, and what happened then ? I ran with all my legs as quickly as possible to take shelter with crowd.
‘If we follow the crowd, we won’t go further than the crowd. We should be true to ourselves even if that means being different,’ as the old saying goes. Scientifically, to be true to ourselves means the recognition of our real nature as divine ideas.
Man is spiritual, the child of God. God, our true Self, the real, the only universal Mind, governing of all things, including. Divine Science transcends the evidence of physical sense – alias matter. The empire of Mind is everpresent. Mind is never absent, nor absent minded.
So surprisingly, the shell landed on the roof of the house where we had all taken shelter. Again, it was a mad dash in all directions away from this dangerous place. Unfortunately for me I could not run away. My right foot was trapped deep in the gutter. I was once more alone under ‘the logic of circumstances.’
Slowly sliding down from the top of the roof in my direction, the shell stopped its course at the end of the roof, by a branch of a tree which overflowed towards the sheets. It did not explode. God is omnipotent, supreme. Humbly, I kept on thanking God for the lesson. I rgrasped the allness of Love divine which holds dominion over all things.
I grasped the lesson. We are not really impuissant in front all circumstances or surrounding conditions. As children of the Almighty God, we are not without help in trouble. God is intelligence. “Intelligence is omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence. It is the primal and eternal quality of infinite Mind, of the triune Principle, — Life, Truth, and Love, — named God’ (‘Science and Science‘ by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 469).
Christian Science reveals that no belief has power to affect man. The man whom God has formed is everlastingly spiritual — the spiritual image and likeness of God — dwelling in the spiritual kingdom of the real. God is the only law-Maker, the only King, the only Saviour. There is only one Mind, the perfect Mind or presence (Isaiah 33:22).
