POWER THAT ‘RULES THE UNIVERSE
Our security is neither produced nor depends on matter. Matter is derived from within — mortal thought, including physical environment, physical body, and experience.
1918 Pandemic claimed the lives of 50 million (500 million infected) around the planet. The Spanish influenza tested the capacity of governments, medical professionals, churches, and social institutions to confine the despread crisis.
Yet, let us bring out the fact that in spite of the fury of the serpent — alias mortal mind, Reality is forever present, and perfection of man is immutable. ‘Do we expect to change perfection? ‘ Mrs. Eddy asks (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 2).
‘The experiments made at Goat Island (California) by Navy doctors in an effort to learn something about the influenza germ, carry a lesson that every person should study and understand. Fifty young sailors volunteered to become influenza victims, that the doctors might study the disease more carefully. These young men had no fear of the disease : they willingly offered themselves. They were placed with flu patients ; they were given jars of flu germs, which they breathed into their lungs ; they had flu germs injected into their bodies : But no cases developed among these fifty sailors ! These men had been inoculated ; they had been exposed to the disease in every manner ; they had breathed in the germs and eaten and slept with flu victims, and not one of them became infected ! The medical men confessed themselves baffled. All their ideas of the disease were turned topsy-turvy… The doctors are still wondering. The explanation, however, is simplicity itself, for it was proved by each one of these fifty young men. This showed clearly that they did not fear the disease… ‘*
The fact corresponds and responds to the Scientific statement of being. A scientific, futuristic-old perspective and dimension to ponder — a potential, even ‘a method infinitely above that of human invention ‘ (Science and Health, p. 44).
‘The material and mortal body or mind is not the man ‘ — Mrs. Eddy keeps on insisting (idem, p. 209).
Man is ‘not structural ‘, the highest expression of Mind infinitely intelligent. Being is God, the Real, diseaseless, sinless, deathless, causing no death, sin, nor disease. In the realm of the real there is no disease. Under the eternal law of perfection–Christ, man is sheltered from destruction. Christ is his true spiritual identity. ‘My kingdom [is] not from hence ‘ (John 18:36).
‘Say ye not, a confederacy, to whom this people shall say, a confederacy, neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself ; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread ‘; ‘Fear thou not ; for I [Spirit] am with thee : be not dismayed ; for I [Spirit] am thy God [Good, Reality] ‘ (Isaiah 8:12,13 ; 41:10).
Thoughts and sentiments impact on physical states and the totality of surrounding conditions. In proportion we seize the control of the Great universal All, Mind divine, over all, we reflect that control.
